Says the sociologist Julio Jacobo Waiselfisz, director of research      and evaluation of the Sangari Institute and author of "Map of Violence 2011 - Young People of Brazil" - Study of the Justice Ministry considers youth between 15 and 24 years of age.


Study prepared by the Instituto Sangari - "Mapa da Violência 2011 – Os Jovens do Brasil" shows that between 1998 and 2008 the homicide was the cause of death of 39.7% of young people in Brazil.
The sociologist Julio Jacobo Waiselfisz, who led the study, said the situation in Brazil is "epidemic." "The homicide rate among youth is three times above the international average", he explained.


The Map of Violence also examined the deaths of young people due to traffic accidents and suicides. According to the study, between 1998 and 2008, the rate of traffic fatalities among young people was 32.4%. In the same period, the suicide rate among young people increased 22.6% from 1454 sucídios in 1998 to 1783 in 2008.
