International Day of Down Syndrome

Parliament celebrates International Day of Down Syndrome
In a ceremony in the Senate and House of Representatives, was celebrated on Wednesday (21), the International Day of Down Syndrome. During the event, were honored individuals, organizations and institutions that promote and carry out concrete actions and successful projects of social inclusion. The ceremony is an initiative of Congressman Romario (PSB-RJ) and Senator Lindbergh Farias (PT-RJ). Both are parents of children with Down Syndrome.

The event also marked the launch of the portal Down Movement (www.movimentodown.org.br).




The International Day of Down syndrome in Brazil and is celebrated in over 40 countries.
The
down syndrome is not a disease. It is a chromosomal abnormality. According to the World Health Organization, every 800 births, a child born with Down syndrome.

In Brazil, there is still the difficulty of access to information, professional and apparatus necessary for the proper development of children in this condition.
